Checklist

Immediately following the death of a loved one, you can feel overwhelmed by all the duties and details you suddenly have to cope with. This checklist gives you an idea of some of the tasks involved in planning a funeral:

• Contact the deceased friends and relatives
• Arrange accommodations for out of town visitors
• Arrange a funeral or a memorial service
• Will there be a wake or similar gathering?
• Arrange for a post-service reception if desired
• Write an obituary and decide where it will be published
• Select clothing and jewelry for the deceased
• Collect relevant paperwork such as wills
• Contact pallbearers
• Collect photographs and other objects to create a presentation at the service
• Ask someone to deliver the eulogy, if desired.
• Take care of floral arrangements
• Select music for the service
• Select religious or other readings for the service
