Matheson, Ian 1937-2012
Ian passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2012. He will be sadly missed by wife Anne, daughter Jennifer (Jeff) and adored granddaughters, Lexi, Katelyn and Kiera, and also by many loving family members. Ian graduated from Ridley College and Ealing School of Art, London, England, majoring in Photography and Film. During summers, he worked at the St. Catharines Standard and went on to work for major North American magazines, news services and newspapers. A talented photojournalist with an innate sense of the story and the skill to make the picture tell it, his work took him to 14 countries on a wide range of assignments. To name a few – the Beatles 1964 tour, unrest in Ireland, and the civil rights movement in the U.S. Ian returnedto Ontario in the late 1960s and did features photography at the Spectator and then worked for McMaster University for 20 years as a medical and public relations photographer. After that, he pursued freelance work and his lifelong interest in cinematography and photographing the environment and nature. A celebration of life will take place on February 11 at 11am at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road, Hamilton. A book of condolences is at www.baygardens.ca.
