“I choose to follow in the family footsteps of Funeral Service because I enjoy and value the ability to develop relationships with the broad range of people that make up our community. I enjoy the ongoing and generational relationships we build as families--one family serving another. One of the things I enjoy most about my work with Bay Gardens is the expanded relationships we have built and continue to build with the 'not-for-profit sector of our community.”
Rick was born and raised in Newfoundland and is number 15 out of 17 kids. He left Newfoundland at the age of 17 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he spent 5 years in the Navy in Victoria BC. After the service Rick was given an offer to play semi-pro fastball in New Zealand, which he did for 2 years before deciding to move to Ontario. Rick then became a Mechanical Draftsman until meeting some people in the Funeral Industry. At this point Rick decided to get his Funeral Directors license in 1996 and has been active in the profession ever since.
Rick deeply cares about the families he serves and takes great pride in helping them. “The best thing about my job is sitting with families who are preplanning their arrangements as there isn’t any stress or pressure and I am able to help them make these important decisions in advance.” Rick is a very active volunteer in the community and particularly enjoys most sports, such as hockey, baseball, squash and golf.
